    This Cabernet Is Money

Oakville. No place-name in Napa Valley rings with more quality and prestige.

That, however, doesn’t mean all of Oakville is created equal. Some areas within the prized appellation carry even more well-earned cachet than their counterparts—and the aptly named Money Road is one of them.

Money Road slices through Oakville’s tenderloin. Located not far from Opus One, the vineyards on Money Road rub shoulders with Groth’s Reserve Block—the “sweet spot” that produced California's first 100-point wine—and sit just a stone’s throw from where some of the most renowned labels in Napa Valley grow grapes.

Few neighborhoods can match Money Road for outright Cabernet quality, which is why you can imagine the excitement we felt when we got a shot at a few barrels from these untouchable environs.

There’s no long yarn to tell here. Our friend makes an Oakville-labeled Cabernet from Money Road just about every year, but in 2021, his source could only offer him enough grapes to make about four barrels. So he made the wine, but when it came time to bottle, he decided against bottling the small quantity, which would only result in about 100 cases. That’s when he called us.

It happened to be the perfect amount to build an NDA exclusive for our members, so we snapped it up. The result is a Cabernet that exudes not just an Oakville level of quality, but one worthy of one of Oakville’s most prized quarters.
