    A Century of Steadiness

    94 years. Just three bosses.

That’s the story of Champagne Saint-Chamant in a nutshell. Founded by Pierre and Hélène Coquillette in 1930, it was operated by their son Christian from 1950 to 2020—a staggering 70 years. Now it’s headed by Christian’s son Stéphane.

When we visited the Saint-Chamant house in Épernay, we didn’t even know when we’d arrived. The facility, with its mile-long cellar, announces itself with… well, it doesn’t announce itself. It’s hidden behind a building that gives new meaning to the word “nondescript.”

Saint Chamant specializes in Blanc de Blancs, 100% Chardonnay Champagne primarily grown on their 28 acres in the Grand Cru village of Chouilly. The name of this wine, craie, refers to the prized chalk-heavy soil in which Chardonnay thrives as well as to the plot on which this wine is grown.

Champagne earns its toasty depths by spending time on the lees, and this bottle spent an incredible ten years on the lees before being disgorged—a length of time that you can compare to Krug and other marquee Champagne bottlings. It’s a bottle that stunned us the first time we tasted it, in Champagne, and had us swearing we’d bring it to our Champagne Club members. We hope you enjoy every last sip.
